Internet telah memberi kemudahan untuk siapa saja dapat belajar sendiri tentang banyak hal. Sebut saja misalnya : komputer sudah jelas, teknologi elektronik terbaru, tanaman, obat-obatan, perawatan binatang peliharaan, dsb. Semuanya mungkin bisa didapatkan banyak di internet.

Masalahnya seringkali seseorang tidak tahu apa yang harus dicari atau fokus apa yang harus didapatkan. Nah, inilah biasanya faktor yang utama. Seseorang dapat duduk berjam-jam di depan komputer untuk bergelut dengan Facebook untuk sekedar chating, lihat-lihat status orang lain, browse foto, dsb. Apabila seseorang bisa mengatasi faktor ini saja dahulu, mungkin akan mendapatkan lebih banyak hal-hal dari adanya internet.

Hal yang termudah untuk seseorang mulai mendayagunakan internet mungkin adalah mulai membuat sebuah blog. Dengan blog seseorang dapat berlatih untuk menuangkan ide atau apapun dalam bentuk tulisan, jadi tidak sekedar melihat-lihat saja tulisan yang dibuat orang lain. Dengan menuliskan sesuatu, mungkin untuk tahap pertama sekedar laporan atau penulisan ulang dari apa yang didapatkan dari web atau blog orang lain. Bila ini dapat dilakukan secara konsisten, tidak menutup kemungkinan seseorang dapat sangat terasah kemampuan menulisnya.

Jangan berpikir untuk menghasilkan tulisan yang bagus atau rapi, bahkan cenderung ilmiah. Untuk membuat seseorang menjadi konsisten untuk mengupdating blognya saja merupakan suatu kemajuan yang luas biasa. Toh, kemampuan menuliskan apapun tidak pernah merupakan sesuatu yang mubazir, apalagi untuk siswa-siswa atau mahasiswa.

Ada banyak web atau blog yang secara cuma-cuma memberikan teknik atau pengetahuan apapun, misalnya cara belajar sendiri atau belajar dari berbagai tips, yang memberikan beberapa hal dasar. Atau banyak sejali web atau blog yang dapat dicari menggunakan mesin pencari Google dengan sangat mudah.
